Although the signing of the underground mining of Oyu Tolgoi has happened in December 2015, the FDI has continued to be dull in the first quarter of 2016 given the slower growth of Chinese economy, weaker commodity price and still uncertain policies by the Government.
However, the weaker trend of commodity prices and global stock markets may have bottomed in the quarter and the risk appetite of foreigners of investing in emerging markets may be back soon.
I am not sure whether these positive trends may continue in coming quarters. However, if this trend continues, the situation on Mongolia may be positive again in a near future.
In addition, if you turn your eyes to the domestic issues, there will be two upcoming events that investors should focus on in Mongolia.
Firstly, we will experience the general election in June and all the 76 parliament members will be replaced. We are not sure if the new Government will take investor friendly measures or not. However, we at least know that lessons are learnt by the politicians and we hope they will implement favorable policies after the election.
Secondly, we will be hosting “ASEM” in the middle of July. This will be a very important event for Mongolia as more than 50 heads of states and their delegations in Europe and Asia will come to Mongolia. We want to know whether Mongolia can take advantage of the opportunities and if we can see some positive outcomes of ASEM for Mongolia in the latter half of this year.
As we host Invest Mongolia at the first week of September, we should know rough ideas of the above questions. So, this will be a great opportunities for everyone get together.
Therefore, Frontier is pleased to invite you all to our upcoming “Invest Mongolia 2016” conference on September 5-6, 2016. This conference is one the of the largest events in Mongolia, which serves as a platform of bringing in people from the Government, key industries' players, financial institutions and global investors; where they get a chance to talk about several socio-political and economic development throughout the year. Thus, this conference will provide first-hand information you need to make your lucrative activities more fruitful.
We have successfully held the 9th Invest Mongolia on Sep 8-9, 2015 in Ulaanbaatar and the 3rd Invest Mongolia on Dec 9-10, 2015 in Tokyo with more than 1000 people attended from almost 30 countries in the world.
